Complete introduction to Flipgrid-Ideal online technology

Complete introduction to Flipgrid-Ideal online technology A complete introduction to Flipgrid. This is an ideal tool if you are looking to get your students recording answers to questions online or even in a blended learning scenario, perhaps for homework. It works like a forum. The teacher writes or records a question and the students record their answers.

Flipgrid is ideal for brainstorming, discussions, debates, feedback or sharing opinions. It has a nice interface which once you have got the hang of is easy to use. The free account is quite generous and you can set multiple questions within one topic ( called a grid).

In this video, I show you how to set up an online discussion using FlipGrid. I show you both the teacher and the student view. I first show you how to set up your FlipGrid and how to add a question. I then move over to student view and I log in as a student and I answer the teacher's questions online using my camera.

I then take you back to the teacher view and show you how you can give feedback on a Flipped Grid. You can give students a mark and you can leave comments. Flip grid is ideal for online teaching. It works really well as a tool to use at the end of a lesson as part of the online homework.

The teacher can also collect together the best answers into a mix tape. The mix tape can be useful as a teacher can play good examples to the rest of the class and use them as models of good practice. This is a simple feature to set up and works very well.

FlipGrid is all about speaking. So this is a great tool for language teachers. Students can record their answers. They can re-record if they are not happy. It is important to make sure that students prepare for giving the records. Students need a rubric, a framework or even a model of what is expected of them and this really helps them to understand what they are meant to do,. especially at the start.

When working online with FlipGrid, you can create only one grid but you can actually have more than one question. A question is a topic. So each grid can have multiple topics. So a grid is like a theme, say ecology and then the topics are the various questions related to ecology. It is possible to do an audio recording rather than a video and when teaching online, many students might prefer that choice.
