Thanks to Reverend Shannon Ledbetter for the evocative eulogy and Alan Peters for the surreal sunset. The poor little poems, topping and tailing, were by me.
Apologies for the poor, recorded on phone, sound quality.
Dearest Felicity
As your soul sails the seven salty seas and the sparkling stars above
Remember your earthbound friends, be buoyant on their love
With infinite and eternal love
Chumki
Setting Felicity Free
That day it blustered, raged and stormed
Our hearts reflected in that squall
Blown like rags in eye of storm
We clutch each other, lest we fall
Clustered close, we can’t keep warm
Swelling waves make us feel small
Stinging rain disguised those eyes
Brimming with more tears to cry
For that darling girl who rode
These waters now her last abode
This day that was her date of birth
Now marks the place where paths divert
This mortal coil we cannot flee
To where immortal, you float free
Now you leave this realm dear heat
One final journey, then we part
The ferry man holds fast his craft
So, your spirit may depart
Turbulent the Mersey bawls
Felicity, your brother calls
Choppy waters rise to greet
To welcome you into the deep
Sorrow slays us with its sigh
Grieving at this last goodbye
All our minds can see your face
As you leave us, in this place
Wishing that time could be turned
So, to us, you would return
But life is but a fragile spark
Once extinguished, ever dark
Our refuge now is memory
Those worlds will never cease to be
Where we still wander hand in hand
United as Felicity’s band
You my darling marked us all
We still answer to your call
Bound by silken gossamer thread
Felicity lives in our heads
All of us can see her sign
So, raise to her a glass of wine
