Options trade: How to acquire ETFs at a lower price (sell puts), (XLI), 5|15|2020 exp (Part 1 of 2) On April 9, 2020, I sold (to open) a put option on the SPDR Industrial Sector ETF (XLI). The risk of put-selling is something called "assignment."

XLI is an ETF that I have always wanted to hold in my portfolio as a long-term investment. To acquire shares of XLI, I can either buy them on the open market or sell a put option.

In this lesson, I explain why I prefer to sell put options over simply buying the ETF. I also explain why I chose to sell the May 15, 2020, $58 put option.
