Today I am making Old Fashioned Butter Cookies just like my Grandmother use to make. We use to sit on the Back Porch, Laugh, Talk, and enjoy some Butter Cookies and Milk.
This Recipe is soft, chewy, and full of Butter flavor; this is a great Recipe for a beginner Baker and great to make with your Kids. Everyone will love and enjoy these yummy Cookies.

Ellen’s Cookie Recipes Playlist:
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 large egg, room temperature
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp pure butter extract
2 2/3 cups self rising flour or all purpose flour (1 tsp baking powder and 1/4 tsp salt if using all purpose flour)
In a medium bowl, sift or whisk together the flour (baking powder and salt, if using), set aside.
In a large bowl using a hand mixer, add butter and sugar; cream on medium speed until fluffy. Next add and mix in the egg until well combined. Then add and mix in vanilla and butter extract until well incorporated. Slowly add the flour into the butter mixture and mix until well combined. Roll the dough into a ball and cover with plastic wrap. Place the cookie dough into the refrigerator and chill until firm for 1 hour.
Preheat Oven to 400 Degrees
Place the cookie dough onto a lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. Cut out the dough using the cookie cutters and place them on a 9x13 inch long cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes until the edges are a light golden brown. Remove from the oven and cool on wire rack. Place cookies on a cake stand or platter and serve.
