For any copyright, please send me a message.  A nationwide lockdown was implemented in the last week by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an effort to fight the spread of coronavirus.  At the time of writing, the death toll is 1,789, with close to 400 people dying of the virus in a 24-hour period.  At the daily Covid-19 press conference on Tuesday, the medical director of NHS England, Professor Stephen Powis, said: ‘we are not out of the woods’ despite there being a ‘bit of a plateau’ in infections.  With lockdown measures preventing people from seeing even members of their own family if they live outside their household, what impact is this lockdown going to have on Easter Sunday celebrations? Will lockdown be over by Easter?  These measures put in place by the Prime Minister will last for at least three weeks in total.  Therefore it looks like we have to wait until at least Monday 13 April – one day after Easter Sunday – before the lockdown restrictions can be lifted, as that’s three weeks to the day after Mr Johnson announced the lockdown measures.  However when the PM announced the implementation of the lockdown, he stated that it is subject to ‘constant review’ so the wait may well be longer.  Read the latest updates:Coronavirus news live To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video  He said: ‘I can assure you that we will keep these restrictions under constant review.  ‘We will look again in three weeks, and relax them if the evidence shows we are able to.’  He added, ‘But at present, there are just no easy options. The way ahead is hard.’ To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video  Meanwhile at a subsequent press conference, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Jenny Harries said that it could be at least six months until things in the country get back to normal, and that these lockdown measures will be reviewed every two to three weeks.  She added: ‘This is not to say we would be in complete lockdown for six months, but as a nation we have to be really, really responsible and keep doing what we’re all doing until we’re sure we can gradually start lifting various interventions which are likely to be spaced – based on the science and our data – until we gradually come back to a normal way of living.’  Follow Metro across our social channels, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  Share your views in the comments below.
