The San Paolo Hospital in Milan, after the spread of the Coronavirus in Codogno, has been one of the first hospitals getting ready to fight against the Sars-Covid-2 pandemic. The intensive care unit has been completely dedicated to very ill patients suffering from coronavirus. “This is the terminal unit - tells us dr. Davide Chiumello, director of the intensive care unit at the San Paolo Hospital in Milan - where patients affected by great respiratory crisis caused by coronavirus are taken. Here the patients are sedated, so they do not see, hear or talk but, most of all, do not suffer. The death rate here has set around the20%, 30%.
“We are overwhelmed - tells us dr. Antonella D’Arminio Monforte, director of the infectious diseases unit at the San Paolo hospital - we have been constantly working for weeks, this infection has completely monopolized all the health structures. Lombardy surely has a great sanitary system, but if this epidemic won’t stop it will become more and more obsolete.”
